Hello all,
I am a bit worried about a white spot I spotted on one of our little guy’s scales. Any idea what it could be? I’m worried it could be the start of ick but worry about starting treatment without knowing the cause. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

There is a faint white mark on his side between the pectoral and dorsal fin. It's roughly the size of a scale. It does not look like ich, more like a scale that's been caught on something.

Ich looks like the fish has been sprinkled with salt and there's usually more than one spot.

If it is the pale spot between pectoral and dorsal fin, it looks like a lifted scale. Basically the scale has been caught on something and lifted up. It will probably fall out and be replaced bya new one

Thank you all so much for your input! I’ve been watching it closely and it looks like another one popped up. Do you think it could be the same thing? He’s eating okay, energy level is normal and he’s got a nice big bubble nest.

It does not look like ich, the spots are too big for that. And if it was ich, the first one would have dropped off by now.

But keep an eye on the spots. I had a betta several years ago which had something that started out like this. If yours turns out to be the same, the spots will get bigger and bigger.
Keep us informed, whether the spots go away or not - I will be very relieved if your betta doesn't have what mine had.
