I have got a problem with a black molly..................it keeps getting whitespot!
I treat with anti white spot and it clears up but a few weeks later it comes back again................all the other fish seem fine apart from the molly.
Any ideas whats causing it and what should i do?
thanks

I'm no expert, but apparently black mollies do get white spots on them, similar to white spot, but the meds won't cure it,its where normally there is a lack of aquarium salt in the tank, usually they recommend a short stay in a salt bath then return to the main tank.

Hopefully the experts here can help you more :)

I would suggest that you start by making sure you are really dealing with ich and not some similar problem. If it is ich, the most important part of the treatment process is making sure you continue well after all the spots have gone, otherwise the parasites will become visible again a few weeks later. (something about that sounds familiar) The parasites cannot be killed while they are on a fish so you need to keep treating until all have fallen off the fish, which is a normal part of the ich life cycle, then continue treating long enough to kill all of the free swimming ich parasites. There is a link to a very good description of ich and its treatment in my signature area called ich info. Mollies, and all other fish for that matter, do not get ich from water quality issues or salt or lack of salt. They get ich when the parasite is present in their tank.

I've got three black lyretail mollys and I find that the females tend to get a small white spot, usually on the top of their heads, shortly before they give birth and then afterwards it goes away. I think the reason they get these white spots is because their immune system isn't running as well as it could, they're a little stressed or their bodies are going through a bit of a change.

Now yes, I have gotten ich in my tank before but if you regularly put a small amount of aquarium salt in your tank, then you will almost never get it again. I learned that the hard way.

But if the white spot keeps coming back, I suggest looking to see why, such as whether it is happening after a water change, or before a molly gives birth, etc.

I have the same problem with my black molly. She was given to me on 9-7-09 and a few days later was full of white spots. Looks like she was sprinkled with salt. My fish guy said not to treat they tank unless others showed up with it. Within a week or so, all her spots were gone. Now 3 wks later, she has two spots on the top of her head. I do think its from stress and do not want to treat an otherwise healthy
tank unless i have to. Any suggestions? Did you get rid of your white spots??

Thank you for any help you can give me.
Newbie at this fish thing!! LOL!!
