I was about to cycle my tank but then went on holiday so had it fed a little (half pinch every 2 weeks) whilst i was away.
Now im back and the mopani in it has a white hair looking stuff on it - but in some areas theres some white solid type stuff (flat to the wood - like white paint), and a bit of black stuff here and there.
How do i get rid of it? i want to make sure i have a clean tank before going any further.

thanks. C :D

Sounds like its either fungi (raise the temp...get fungi removal) or it could be a sort of parasite. Could you describe it in more detial?

woops sorry man bogwood can't get parasites...besides termites lol ;) :p could be some bacteria/fungi from some uneaten food.

that sounds about right. there is a little food in there that needs cleaning up. Is raising the temp the way to go then? how high need it be?
thanks for your hewlp.C

You should immediately take it out. IF you want you could add some fungi-remedi to stop it spreading and maybe notch the temp up to around 2 deg C more. I think you should be ok without adding the fungi-remedi. What fish do you have in your tank. To stop this problem you could introduce a few corys they eat uneaten food for you ;) Good Luck

Hi Kossy - personally, I think a golden apple snail would be better to eat up that wasted food. Less trouble than corys and much, much cheaper.

Yes I agree but snails multiply well if a tank doens't have a snail problem I don't think you should add one ;) personally i would go for corys but then again I have snails as well so yeah :D

thankfully i hadnt added anything yet. i was about to start a fishless cycle so it is just water and 'decorations'. I can do anything to it sort of so how do i wak it?
thanks a lot.C

just remembered i got a sample bottle of algae destroyer by API but it doesnt say what its effective against. would it do the trick?
thanks.C
