Hi
Thanks in a large part to this forum, our tank seems to be stable (still cycling but fish still alive! I am NEVER cycling with fish again and wouldn't have this time if I had known better!). Stats looking ok (ammonia down to almost nothing and nitrites seem under control with the frequent water changes suggested).

One odd thing, though - on the suction pads that hold the heater to the tank, a white fur seems to have grown. I have done searches but not come back with anything conclusive - I have not tried to clean it off yet as I don't know what it is. Is this normal and what should I do?

Thanks again.
Tim

hi tim im only replying as you've not had an answer from anyone so this will bump the thread back to the top for you.

ive not come across this before so cant really help you. what ever it is id clean it off if it were me. could be some kind of food or some flesh stuck in it somewhere. some fish rot in tanks and they have a weird fur around them when they are rotting. thats my educated guess but could be a manner of things

Again Im not sure what it is.Ihad a whitish fur growing on my bogwood which disappeared after a few weeks.
It didnt affect anything in the tank.
I d just clean it off if I were you.

I had a 'white film/fur' appear on my heaters sucker pads when tank was newly set up... I wiped it off each water change... now its gone...
