Hello. I've had my tank going for 3-4 weeks now and I am currently letting it grow. I started growing my lotus seeds in the tank and a few have this odd film on them. What is this? My snails have been having a good ole time with the seeds and have been eating at them as well, why? Thanks.

Hello. I have had my tank for 3-4 weeks and it is heavily planted as I am letting my tank grow out before I add a betta. Currently I have a ton of snails roaming around as they came from local plants. Anyways, I have had these types of "bacteria" on my glass before and I don't know exactly what they are called or how they appear out of no where. One day the tank got a bit dirty and these long white things appeared on my glass. They wiggle around time to time which is pretty cool and my last betta I had ate some of them. Any idea what they are and how they appear? Thanks.

Wasn’t there another thread similar to this one? @essjay, May we please merge these two together?

They are either Detritus Worms, or Planaria. You can learn how to identify them here: https://www.thesprucepets.com/what-are-these-tiny-white-worms-1378753

Detritus worms are safe and, in most cases, beneficial for the ecosystem of the tank. Planaria worms on the other hand, have been linked to Flukes, tapeworms, and other illnesses.
Oh ok I believe they are detritus because I have had them before and read up on them and they describe what I have. Thank you. Anyway of getting rid of a mass amount?
