Hi everyone! I just got a male Betta from Walmart. I felt sorry for him in that little cup all the way in the back and couldn't just leave him, so now I have a desk fish even though I wasn't planning on it.

He is white in color and I was wondering if that is a normal or if he'll gain a little color to him eventually? He looks pretty stressed out so I wasn't sure if that could effect his coloring or not.

Thanks for any responses. I'm pretty excited about my new fishie, although the cat is not pleased he took over her spot on the desk.

Welcome :)

I have seen white bettas before. It could be from stress/bad water conditions, though. If he isn't white, then his coloring will come back eventually

What size tank is he in? Be careful since the cat might decide to "go fishing" someday lol

Thanks for the reply. He is in a 1 gallon tank with a lid so the cats can't scoop him out. He's still in his little cup right now waiting for the water in the tank to get to room temperature.

That makes me remember another question, is it okay to use a fish net to place him in the tank? or will that tear his fins? I just don't want to dump the icky cup water in the clean tank.

:hi: to the forum :)

i bet hes glad you rescued him, well done :good:

Welcome, congratz on the new betta...

I net my bettas out, but be careful and don't be too rough or else you might tear his fins a little.

White bettas are perfectly normal, but sometimes they have some blue or red or other washes that don't show hen they're stressed.

Well he's in his tank and so far so good. He seems pretty happy with the new diggs and he LOVES the cat. She came up to sleep next to the tank, her fur smooshed against it and he is spending all his time right next to her leaning against the glass. She has been ignoring him.

And now...I'm already thinking of getting another one....like I need more pets. (says the girl with three dogs, seven cats, three goldfish and now a betta.)

That's how it all starts, one small betta. Then another and another and.... Welcome to their world. You sound like a person after my own heart: "coffeeaddict" and 7 cats. My theory is that you can NOT have too many cats, unless your spouse is a dog person (why I only have one cat). The bettas are easier to take care of than many pets, so Hubby is good about letting me add to my collection.

Oh I think I have too many for sure, but I love 'em to pieces anyway. I never set out to have 7 kitties but they are all rescues and just sort of fell into my lap. The Inn is full though now, no more furkids for me! Fishies...maybe.

I want a white betta  , but I already have a blue one x_X

Hope you'll enjoy your new addition. (My sister's cat always stares at my fish tanks desperately...)
