Seriously thinking of starting a saltwater tank. Early days so first step is selection of tank and size. Limited by were the tank is to go. In the tv room so I can view the most. Once I have an idea of the tank I can do ernest research into the stock.

I would like fish and coral. The tanks footprint to be no longer than 100cm. So probably a nano reef setup.

I have been eyeballing the Kent Marine reef, the 29 bio cube, nano tl550 or maybe a converted rio 125. As experienced salters which would you use or any others to recommend

Thanks for your time.

I like biocubes. I help take care of one where I volunteer. I pulled everything out of the back and put in an In Tank media basket with purigen and chemi pure elite.

Thanks for your feedback.  The LFS's have the Kent reef and boyu 550 in stock.  I like the thought of 125 litres for a tank. As part of the package their throwing in testers and cured live rock for the tank.  For the tank, stand and extras costs £460.

Initially I was looking for a 30 litre tropical for £100.  Now I'm selling a kidney. LOL.

I have a Kent BioReef :) You can look at my journal in the right section :)

Its a lovely little tank, great for getting into marines and has still got resale value. Comes with a good little protein skimmer and really strong little powerhead so better than the River Reef.

It has quirks! Like the the tank is deep and so is the filter so i kept losing the media and wasnt able to reach it as my arms are short :p but all i did was tie a bit of cotton around one of the biomedia bags and around the top of the filter so its easy to pull out lol...

And the protein skimmer doesnt have a bubblestop and so chucks loads of micro bubbles into the tank (bad!) but i just put a bit of foam next to the skimmer and that stopped it.

I had lost heart in the tank tbh as i now want one ten times the size but as of today im officially in love with the tank again and have eggs :D

Thanks MBOU, will give your journal a read.

I have a Biocube, but mine's been modded quite a bit (new lights, media rack, flow, etc).

Most journals I read most people seem to modify everything.

I'm not good at DIY. My wife can testify to that.

haha I'm not good at diy either. I had to google what a sawzall and a chop saw was! Most mods are easy, at least the ones I've done.

I do have a 12g nanocube at home. I have a 150w Metal Halide on it and also have an In Tank media basket in the back. I upgraded the return pump to a maxijet 900 and added a Hydor Flo rotating deflector.

The size, type of tank I'm interested in is for the TV room. Will noise be an issue with these tanks?

Kant Marine Tank is silent :p

And the only modding i did was adding Rowaphos to the media and a bit of sponge... if you cant cope with that minimal level of DIY then you probably ought not have marine tank :p
