Which Tank Heater Should I Get? What Are Some Leading Brands?

Hi all, I already have a 300W Aqua One heater for my 240L tank, but I wanted to get another one just in case the heater brakes!

I was wondering what are some leading brands for heaters? I am in Australia, and understand that some brands in the US or UK might not be available here, but I just wanted to find out.

I was actually deciding between getting the following 2 heaters:

Option 1) Via Aqua Stainless Steel Heater 200watt (link below) $20 AUD (on special, normal price is $50 AUD)

I have never heard of this brand, but as the heater is Stainless Steel, I thought this would be better than ordinary glass heaters? Has anyone ever used this heater before with any success? Note I will be getting the 300W instead, since my tank is 240L.


Option 2) Fluval Tronic Electronic Probe Heater 300watt (link below) $36 AUD

I heard Fluval is a good aquari brand and this heater is also made in Italy. This one sounds like its good more features than the first one, but its not a stainless steel heater.


Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have one of the Via Aqua Heaters. They are a great idea but the temperature sensor is separate from the actual heater and it's a bit of a pain. The suction cup for the sensor has never worked properly so it's hard to keep the cord hidden. You don't have to worry about a heater breaking in your aquarium though. I will keep it in the tank but wouldn't buy it again.

Depends on the country you are in - which seems to be Oz.

Over here in the UK, I'd say probably Visitherm (my favourite + comes with long warrantee) and Tronic.
