Where To Purchase Ammonia In Us?

Can someone tell me where I can purchase Ammonia to get my tank started? I'm in Virginia. Of course I won't be able to get out in the next few days with the 10+ inches of snow on the ground!

One of the most popular and successful ones currently in the USA are the "Ace Hardware" chain of stores. They have a red labeled clear/whitish bottle that quite a few members here have used successfully.

Down in my area (north carolina) we have a grocery chain called Harris-Teeter and you can get a quart or half gallon or such for less than a dollar and it's perfect stuff. A fair number of grocery chains seem to have this sort of generic stuff.

Watch out for dyes, fragrances, surfactants or soaps. It should not foam but just create larger bubbles just like water when shaken.

Note that (at least in my local Ace Hardware) you can get a much smaller and more appropriate bottle than the big gallon one in Tom's picture. I find it easier to tip a smaller bottle to get the liquid surface up to where I can syringe it easier not to spill, which is important with ammonia. WD

It seems online you can only purchase in bulk though
