Just noticed some weird cloudy growth in my 4-day old planted tank - it doesn't look like algae as it doesn't have threads. Can anyone please help ID this?

Ah I see...I removed what I could just now but the other half of it just dissolved in the water...thank you! :)

Update: It's grown back and is multiplying fast. Did more research and I believe it isn't fungus (I've no fish in the tank) or algae (took some samples out and it wasn't green at all - just milky white) but probably bacteria from too much Ammonia (2ppm) / New Tank Syndrome. Reports seem to indicate it being harmless but I took it out with a turkey baster just in case.

Hope this helps anyone coming across "milky / cotton / snot / spiderweb stuff in new (uncycled/cycling) planted tank", I'll keep this thread updated if something more happens!

I had the exact same thing occur with my tank when I set it up. If it is what you say, mine mostly disappeared after a week or so of its own accord with a couple of straggling bits that eventually went. I suppose you are doing a fishless cycle then?
