Hi everyone,
Been looking at plants on internet and would like your
opinions on the ones that have caught my eye so far,
VERTICILLA
POGOSTEMON HELFERI
LOMARIOPSIS LINEATA
MONOSOLENIUM TENERUM
HYGROPHILLIA SAUCIFOLIA
UTRICULARIA GRAMINIFOLIA,
Are they classed as easy care in your opinion?
what do i need to feed them,
thanks.

im not sure that any of those are easy, i have tanks full of easy plants and they are none of those and esp in a new tank when you have no nitrate build up or natural fertiliser in the substrate. di

Helferi, beautiful plant, one of my fav's. Graminifolia, isn't that the predatory plant? If it's the one I'm thinking then also beautiful, the others I'd have too look up apart from Hygro which is a nice plant too but not as nice as the others I mentioned.

Thanks mate,
any problems taking care of the one's you mentioned?

Pogostemon will grow under low lighting, I have it in three set ups two low one high but it will need some ferts and CO2 to do well, I use Flourish Excel and TPN+. Hygro should be fine but with high light will get redish leaves and the Graminifolia I've never used but it's a good idea to check the tropica website for that one.

VERTICILLA = presuming you mean Hydrocotyle??, then it's a releltivly easy plant to grow, in low tech conditions.
POGOSTEMON HELFERI = Again, reletivly easy, ime, it does like some flow around it or it will get taller than usual
LOMARIOPSIS LINEATA = I have never had any experience with this, llj has grow it again under low light, low tech conditions.
MONOSOLENIUM TENERUM = also have no experience with this plant, but as above
HYGROPHILLIA SAUCIFOLIA = I had this in one of my first tanks and once it gets going it takes over! Heavy pruning needed. Low tech
UTRICULARIA GRAMINIFOLIA = Probably one of the hardest plants to grow IMO, some of the top aquatic gardeners in the world can't grow this stuff. This is deffo not a low teck plant. A beautiful plant though and one day would love to try it.

Thank's a lot.
Really appreciate it.
I will be having a black sand substrate,
is there anything that you would reccomend to put under the sand to feed the plants,
as i want the substrate to be a lot higher at the back sloping down to the front.
thanks.

if it's not a nutrient rich substrate (inert), then whether in be a high or low tech tank, i would personally advise scattering these around the substrate.

these leech into the water column, a really good product.

ps thats a pretty eclectic plant list :good:

I was thinking more of something under the sand that
would allow me to build the substrate up to roughly
4-5 inches at the back of tank.
if you know what i mean.

maybe some cat litter?? That way at least you have a substrate with high CEC. It's also cheap, so you're on a winner.

Your a gentleman,
Dont wanna push my luck by asking what brand of Cat Litter.hahaaaaaa

no problem Festo. I think the brand of choice at the min is Tesco value cat litter. You need to stay away from the perfumed stuff. It'll tell you on the back whether it's perfumed or not.
