that's a pretty broad question.what size tank are you going to start with?

not very sure yet prefferably a quite big one thats not 2 expensive as i would like quite a variety of diffrent fish
wot wud u say iz a decent size tank a medium one maybe?

oh yeah are chichlids alirte to keep with other fish or is it just best to keep them with there own species???

You will have plenty of time to research what fish you would like to keep if you go the fishless cycle route. Take a look here.

i was gonna do that once i actually got the tank but thanx anyways lol

If you've kept tropicals before, I'd recommend a 100ish litre tank or bigger if you can afford it.

As for what to go into it, you can either go down the route of setting up a biotope or species tank or just go for a straightforward community tank.
If you go down the community route I'd have a look about and pick out a few fish that you like the look of, then see whats compatible with them.

Look up platys, danio's, different flavours of tetras, rams, kribensis, rainbows, theres a few to get you started. Check out the species index for more info.

I suggest you learn to spell and write in English properly, before you move on to become responsible for keeping pets.

Pauly.

Wow, thats a tad mean Pauly, I'm sure peoples laziness to type gramattically correct english does not neccissarily make them a terrible fish keeper, you probably speak with a nasal drone but that doesn't make you a bad person :good: :shifty:

afghan, If you seriously are wanting to get back into fish keeping after some time away from the hobby then this forum is the ideal place for you to get some very good advise. I would suggest that you read ALL the pinned topics in the New to the hobby section of this forum, have a think about what size tank you can / want to maintaine and then look at the type of fish you could keep in the limits of your tank. The just take it from there really and see how it goes.

Good luck, I'm sure you will get lots of enjoyment from fish keeping, I know I do.

Regards,

Bricko

P.S. appologies for any bad ggrammer and / or spelling in the post :shifty: :D

I would recommend a tank of approx 120 litres as a starter, obviously the biggest you can afford and have space for is best, as a larger body of water is easier to keep stable than a small one. It will also help with the 'I wish Id got a bigger tank' syndrome we all go through when we first start out.

There are a lot of helpful topics here: http://www.fishforums.net/content/New-to-t...ease-Read-Here/

which would be good for you to read through before setting up your tank, also has links in there for fishless cycling and how to set up your tank.

Also check out the link to the species index, that way you can read up on the types of fish you like and then start a thread about which fish you want and get some replies on compatibility and any obvious issues you may encounter with your chosen fish.

Welcome back to tropical fish keeping, patience is the key to getting the most out of this hobby, so take your time and ask questions if you need to before jumping in head first. Everyone here is always happy to help out :)
