i have a 2ftx1ftx1ft at the moment just have a goldfish and a plec in it want rid of the goldfish and fill it with nicer looking fish my gf likes angel fish which others would be ok with them any ideas also got a 4ft on the way any ideas on this one also i want to use a sand substrate in this one and live plants any suggestions most welcome thanks

The 2 ft tank is too small (+not high enough) for angels. I'm afraid. Is this the same tank as GouramiGirl's? Anyway, for a 15 US gal tank you are looking at a small community of fish that do not exceed 3-4 inches. Trio of honey gouramis, perhaps and a trio of small cories. Or a small school of harlequins. Or some livebearers.

What kind is your plec? If a common or sailfin, he will outgrow the present tank very soon.

For the two foot your gonna have to stick to much smaller fish - You've got a huge range of danio's, tetra's, corys and much more you can choose from but you're best bet would be to pick two or three different types of fish, check their levels (do they occupy upper, middle or lower) and their compatibility then see how many of each you could have (1 inch of adult size per gallon).

Very interesting small fish I've found is the Cave Blind Tetra. Occupies the middle of the tank, cracking little fish with a hell of a lot of character. They swim on their side - it's awesome to watch.

I agree with the others, your current tank is too small for angels mainly because it doesn't have enough height for them, they can grow between 5-8inchs long and grow quite high too- height is a very important factor with angel fish tanks. Do you know what type of plec you have?
For a 15gal i would put a group of 7+ penguin tetras in it, 4 albino corys(depending of what type of substrate you have), and maybe somthing colorful like a group of 5platys(1male, 4female)? Are you interested in shrimp?
This forum has a fish index if you wanna check it out too, very handy :) ;

thanks very much for all that had a flick through my books and came up with this what do you think

4 cardinal tetras
3 harlequin rasboras
3 phantom tetras

i know there is only one middle dweller and the others occupy all levels do you think this would work?
as for the plec i was told it is a leopard plec from the guy in the lfs. had a look through books but dont see one called that he does look familiar to the suckermouth catfish (hypostomus multiradiatus) which he probably is any cheers for all that all of you
