Hi all,

I just got a new tank (75ltr) and I just thought I'd get a couple of opinions before I make up mind on what to get.

I was thinking of going for a predatory tank. I have 1 community and i love it, but i wanted something with a bit more umph if you know what i mean!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!

75L is about 20 US gallons, right?

Hmmm... There's not much predatory that really fits in that size tank. Even tiger barbs would do better in a bigger tank so you can have more of them.

What kind of fish are you looking for other than predatory?

African cichlids are predatory... you could have 3-4 of them in there.

EDIT: this also depends on what type. I'm thinking about small malawi cichlids like malawi gold, or yellow labs.

A pike cichlid. They are streamlined and grow to about 6 inches.

Shame about the phiranas, I wanted something pretty aggressive.........

How "Tame" are African cichlids?

Well, generally, the smaller cichlids like the ones David mentioned are not as aggressive as oh, say a pirhana but you definitely don't have room for that.

If you want aggressive, a pair of breeding convicts might work.

What size tank do I need for phiranas? My friend once kept 3 in a 60ltr tank. They were doing fine for about a year untill he left his room mate in charge of feeding them for a couple of days.

He threw in a raw chicken wing and left it

What kind of piranha are you interested in? Most are going to need a 75 US gallon tank or bigger. They get BIG and very territorial.

Thanks for the help parker. I think I'll go down to the lfs, see what they have in stock and then make a decision. I'll let you know my choice!

Nope too small for predatory fish .... they are neat but there is no way u can get any type of pirannah in there ......... you need a BIGGER TANK !!! small tanks are cheap dont take a short cut and let the fish be uncomfortable :-(
