The filter ofcourse, and any airstones etc.

I recently added some blue LED's above the water level which acts as moon lighting.

My lighting hours are now: Daylight (t5 + t8 flurescent tube) between 4pm and 10:30pm and then moon light between 10:30pm and 6am. After 6am the curtains are open as I go to work and the daylight gives the tank some light (not direct) until 4pm comes around again!

Hi,

The filter should always be left on 24/7, as should the heater which should have a built in thermostat which will turn off the heater anyway when the desired temperature is reached.

Leaving an airstone on is optional and isnt required as long as your filter output is creating good water surface movement.

I leave the filter and heater on. I switch my airstone off because it is noisy.

filter, heater on, lights off and airstone.

dunno about anyone else but i notice my fishies slowing down at night, like their sleep zone, turning on lights interrupts that, so i keep them off but that's my personal opinion.

Fish need a night time just like humans, so lights should be off at night.

Plus excessive periods of light encourages algae growth - I only have mine on for 6hrs a day (non-planted tank).
