Hi Peeps.

Just a quick question, the council are coming to replace our kitchen, bathroom and electrics in the house in january and i want to know what i should do about my tank when they turn the power off. Not sure how long it will be off for but i suspect it would be for a good few hrs...anyone with ideas please...

ta much

Have you a friendly neighbour you could run an extension lead from theirs to yours?

A few hours will not be any problem at all if you do not have a greatly overstocked tank. The temperature in the tank will probably drop a bit and oxygen may be slightly reduced but the fish should do fine as long as it is only a few hours. The filter can probably go for a whole day with very little bacterial losses but the ammonia in the tank will start to build a bit before the power is restored. If you are heavily stocked, that build of ammonia is likely to be your first problem.

Right now i only have 6 danios, 2 platies and a clown pleco. by jan i hope to have a few more fish but shouldnt be too over stocked.

When they come round ask the electrician if he could wire a temporary socket in for you, unless he is replacing the fuseboard this shouldnt be a problem!

its going to be everything. the fuses are int the bathroom so that will be the first thing to be moved..ill take k's advice and seee if the neighbour wont mind me borrowing some power lol

If they won't, don't worry too much. Your filter bacteria won't die off until around 24 hours without a flow over them. Wrap the tank in a duvet if the weather is cold.
