What species of betta

I got a new betta but I am wondering what species of betta is it?

The species is Betta splendens. All the common bettas sold in shops are some variety of Betta Splendens.

I presume you mean the breed? If the fish will cooperate, a side on view would help determine the tail type, especially if you can get it to flare its gills and fins by holding a mirror in front of it.

The aquarium varieties are actually hybrids between several Betta species, but they’re based on B. splendens, so that’s the name given to them.
