when you have to seperate the sexes , what size jars do you need first of all
1,2 or 4 litre or 1/2 litre ones
argh

not breeding yet as my 9 girls are only young but want to be prepared when they are ready to breed

You can use anything 1 litre or more, but jars so tiny will need a LOT of water changing, twice a day. I use 1.5 - 2 litres for quarantine and plan on the same for raising fry when I get a successful spawn - water changes 75% (leaving just enough to cover the betta) twice a day.

my auntie got about 50 glass jars take approx 1 3/4 litres of water she used for preserves she's stopped making them so i'll take them off her and boil them
they should be ok to keep in cupboard until breeding time :)

Be careful boiling the glass, it might crack.

second that, pour the boiling water in and allow it to cool naturally

Actually, dont put boiling water in the glass. Boil a kettle halfway till the water is WARM and you can easily touch it without screaming and resulting in a 2nd degree burn. Then put that in the glass jars, allow them to cool naturally.

I've just bought a load of glass sugar containers from wilkinsons ready for my babies, wish i had an auntie who had some, would've of saved a fortune!

Dont worry about me boiling them i know what to do just with my MS i cant always explain well what i'm going to do
wasn't about to throw them in a pan
but thanks for the warning

just use the biggest containers you can find, even 1 gallon milk jugs will do if you can keep them warm.
