Ok, I'm thinking of adding a couple of shrimp to my tank for a bit of variation... But I don't want to get any that would harrass my fish or get eaten themselves!! Any suggestions?

My fish are:
1x Honey Gourami
3x Bronze Cory
6x Tetra (unsure of species)
7x Zebra Danio

Will there be any problems with the cory's and shrimp living together?

My tank is planted so quite a bit of hiding space!!

I have had a couple of amano shrimp for about 9 months and they have been great fun. They hid for about a week after I got them but since then have grown in confidence and are out and about all of the time. They even run up the sides of the tank when I am feeding the fish and pinch flakes. They have no fear of the fish they are in with. They were ignored by the platies, Male Betta, neons and dwarf gourami who shared their tank at one time or another.

They were definately one of my best buys :D and I have now gone and got a bamboo shrimp which is twice as big. He has been a bit quieter however only had him a week so he may just be settling in. :D

How many gallons is your tank?

Beux - the tank is 15 Gallons (UK). I was of the understanding that shrimps barely add to the bioload so didn't come under the 1 inch of fish per gallon guideline.

I've had 6 Amano shrimp in my 130L tank for about a week now and they are fine with my 6 corydoras and a pair of Dwarf Gourami, also 3 otocinclus ..... not sure about your Honey Gourami's but they are very similar in size and requirements.

Within minutes of being added to the tank they all congregated on a rock and proceeded to strip it of algae.

They have not been bothered by any of the other fish, they do back off when the male gourami swims past, but he has never shown the slightest bit of interst in them. Actually shortly after being added to the tank 2 of the shrimps chased off a curious Panda Cory.

If thinking about adding shrimp now just be sure to take them into account if you ever add more fish, although I think you are fully stocked just now (maybe overstocked depending on the type of Tetra !) and you'll also need to be careful if you need to add any medication in the future ... many of the standard fish treatments will kill off your shrimp.

But with a little bit of forethought I've found shrimps are a very attractive, useful and rather amuzing addition to a tank
