Hi all this Christmas, i was kindly given 2 tanks, a Fluval chi25l that has been set up for about 1 month(early Christmas present)this is used for my bristle nose fry(would become a hospital tank). The second tank (20l)i got was a bit of a joke present, but i have still set it up, it has a little heater in, and a air powered sponge filter in it.(might upgrade to small internal) I was thinking of turning it into a feeder tank, fill it with guppies and feed the young to my cichlids.

Is this a good idea?
Better fish to use as food?
Are there any better uses for this tank?

Thanks Westwood

Ignoring the problems with "feeder fish" and the fact that they are illegal in UK, that fish tank would be too small for more than a couple of guppies (assuming you care for their welfare).

Thanks for info, had no idea that was illegal. Are there any other suitable creatures? bloodworm?

Thanks

This is incorrect.

"In the UK, the Animal Welfare Act 2006 prohibits deliberate and “unnecessary suffering” to animals, but contrary to widespread belief, it does not explicitly outlaw the feeding of live feeder fish to other fish. However, it does prohibit introducing two animals for the purpose of “fighting, wrestling or baiting”."

Before doing this I would read up on the pro's & cons in this topic.

Some other thoughts on uses for your tiny new tank. Why not start a nice breeding colony of small fish like golden teddies or Heterandria formosa. Either one would work well in that tiny tank as would a beautiful Betta splendens.
