What Sand For Tropical Tank Setup?

I just got a fuval egde tank to set up and I would like to use sand instead of gravel,What type of sand can I use?Thanks alot

I used play sand from argos

you can use play sand from Argos, toys r us, or any diy store. i used kiln dried sand from B&Q. the sand you buy in aquatic shops is a rip off.

I used Argos play sand as well, just make sure you give it a really good rinse first though, FHM told me a brilliant way to do this, grab a large deep container put your sand in and put a hose pipe right at the bottom and have a nice steady flow of water going in the bucket, the dusty particles and other bits of unwanted rubbish will spill over the top leaving decent sand in the bucket.

This is what I did as well. I used a 5 gallon bucket, filled it up about 1/4 of the way with play sand, and stuck a hose in and rinsed. After a few minutes of water spilling over the top, I'd agitate the sand a bit to allow the lighter particles to spill over the top. I did this several times for each bucket of sand. Now if I pick up sand in my tank, it immediately falls back down without clouding my water.

Also, if I need to fill in a spot, I fill a 20 oz soda bottle about 3/4 full of sand and put it right-side up inside my tank, allowing it to fill with water, and then I turn it upside down. The agitation of water rushing in to fill the void left by the sand exiting the bottle keeps the light, dusty particles floating up inside the bottle, allowing the heavier sand to fall out without clouding up my water. Of course this would take forever if you were to try to fill a tank this way, but works great for spot filling!

i used play sand from b&q, but wash it well as it seemed really dirty, but looks good once in the tank and cost only £4

I have play sand from argos in my 4ft tank , it was on offer 2 bags for £5 last year. I've just added a piccy in the photo bit of it if you want to see it with a blue background
