Hi, I have a coldwater tank so hope you dont mind me asking, but i hope to get a new aquarium soon and I dont want to use all plastic plants in it as I have now, but last time I tried real live plants I got a clear slime issue that took over the tank it was on everything :( though it quickly went when the plant was removed, I couldnt tell you what it was though was like a house dragon plant long green leaves though thin, I know thats no help! and now im put off, I worry this will happen again, can you offer any advice on why this maybe happened and what plants are easy and best for a real plant beginner? I hope to get a juwel trigon 190 or a Fluval Venezia 190, thanks x

Well, the reason your plant died is almost certainly because it was a house dragon plant! Loads of places sell these for tanks, but they can't grow submerged.

All these plants are true aquatics and they should grow fine in cold water; elodae/egeria, cabomba, myriophyllum, Ceratophyllum (hornwort), Aponogeton Crispus, hairgrass, Java fern (that needs to be tied or superglued to a piece of rock or wood, not planted in the substrate), vallisneria, Amazon swords.

They're all quite easy but, as always with plants, there's a little bit of trial and error involved in finding the ones that like being in your tank and that will do well.
