So, I am posting on behalf of another person. I am trying to help this person on another forum and to be honest, I'm having troubles helping her!

She got these two betta fish off this lady and they both live together, and have lived together their whole lives. I've seen pictures, and they really don't seem to care about the other! In fact, it seems like they're friends!

One of the males is OBVIOUSLY male, but the supposed "female" is... not really sure. I'm about 89% positive it's a male spade tail, but I'm now having my doubts.

I hope some of you guys can help me so I can help her figure out what gender her betta is, and possibly, why the two are so friendly to each other?!

Her betta ^

Looks to be a longer finned female VT to me.  The fact that it and a male have lived together for a while is just pure luck.  The possibility of it all exploding at any time is a very real expectation.  If I were you, I would definitely advise her to separate her bettas.

couldn't have said it better, i definitely agree. While attempting to breed my betta fish (was not successful) I found my male actually befriending the females, swimming together and such. It all depends on the fish temperment. My fish was just generally not very aggressive. I kept him with a few neons and he never showed a care in the world however my new betta is very aggressive. but yes i would seperate them just to be safe.
