I have just got an 180 litre Rio which I am slowly stocking.

It currently has
6 Guppies
8 Ember Tetras
2 Apistogramma Agassizii
and 4 Pitbull plecos which will be transferred over hopefully tonight

The rest of my stocking plan is 10 Cardinal Tetras and 2 Rams (probably blues)... what would you suggest if you did not want to go for these?

I really want Rams but would tempt not getting the Cardinals and maybe getting 2 honey gourami instead, as I feel maybe 10 cardinals will be too many fish for the mid-top level of the tank, but I am not sure...

Hi there. I had a small shoal of cardinal tetras in one of my first tanks, they look great, fascinating to watch.
I hadn't come across the Apistogramma Agissizii before. Are they quite peaceful fish? May look into getting a couple for my tank. I dont know alot about them - maybe you could enlighten me? :good:

the only problem I see is the rams. I presume you mean blue/gold/german rams of some sort? These require higher temps than standard tropical tanks (around 28c) so are probably not best suited with the other fish.

bolivian rams are infinitely easier to keep aswell. id look at them if the temp they need is suitable. GBR's will die unless the tank is created around their needs. bolivians are more forgiving.

Thanks for your comments.

I did initially want Bolivians as they tend to be hardier just no one local has any, but I think I might well have a travel to get some.

The Apistogramma Agassizii are lovely little fish I have a male and female who have their cave chosen out, she is out swimming quite often however he tends to stay in or near his cave, I only got them on Saturday but it does appear that they now have white spot, so now going to have to sort that out so will likely result in a delay of me buying cardinals and rams. They have never showed signs of any aggression and like to slowly swim around the tank and find hiding spots anywhere.

Def looks like white spot so temp now up to 29c, aquarium salt added and treating with Interpet Anti White Spot. Looks so far to only be affecting my two Apistogramma Agassizii I got on Saturday. I hope I dont lose them. I have been testing my water twice a day an its still all good. How long is best to wait until adding new fish after treating for white spot?
