We have come to a point which we are unsure what we can add to our tank can you guys give me some options as to what other fish could be added to my community tank?

Tank:
3ft x 1ft x 2ft tank

Tank Mates
2 silver sharks
8 neons
2 peppered corys
1 plec
3 Gouramis
1 male fighter fish

What types of fish would live happily in our community tank?

No more fish as you need a new home for the silver sharks & the plec - these will grow much too big for youer tank.
What species of gourami?
When they've been moved you need at least one more peppered cory and depending on the gouramis you could have a shoal of midwater fish - rosy tetras or dwarf neon raibows?

Our gouramis are dwarfs, two bluey coloured and one orange.

Why do you suggest another peppered cory? do they thrive more in 3's than 2's??

Dont worry about sharks and plec have homes lined up once bigger plec is only 3 inches at the moment and the sharks are roughly 3/4 inches

Would dollars or barbs be suitable for my tank?

The thing with barbs are they may nip fins of your fighter or gourami why not go for a few blood fin tetras i have them in my 3ft community tank or why not go for some of the less aggresive cichlids like maybe a pair of keyholes or a pair of rams

thanks Rusty,

I've just looked up the fish you suggested and they are lovely the sort of fish i was thinking about.

When you said rams did you mean the ones sometimes referred to as Bolivian Butterfly? as they are gorgous!!

The keyholes look lovely too!!

I wasnt aware there were mmore peaceful members of the cichlid family I assumed they all could only be kept with their own kind!!

Thanks for the info! Are both these fish readily available?

Lemon tetras are good. Barbs were very bad in my community tank.

yeh think we are gong to stay away from Barbs I keep hearing they can be a little nippy to tank mates.

and i really want to keep my tank as peaceful as possible.

Get 1 of each if you can. The exception to barbs are cherry barbs, they are pretty peaceful unless protecting their young-uns.

Also, I'd lose the betta he isn't going to play nice with the others.

I've never had silver sharks, so can't comment on them. Cories like being in groups, maybe you could get 3 or 4 of them?

Also, if your Gouramis do not get along, you may find yourself ending up with only 1 of them.

Yep bolivian rams are are ok in a community or maybe a pair of golden rams there lovely thinking of getting some myself as for the keyholes they are really peaceful i have them in my community get a male female pair if you decide on any of these but they should be available from a good stockist just beware of aggression if your lucky enough to get a breeeding pair

Thanks rusty,

yeh the golden rams are gorgeous too! We will defo go with a male and female whichever we decide on. yes i did read that the only time they can become aggresive is when breeding so if they are a 'sucessful couple' ill watch out for that!

thanks again for your advice will update when i have my new pair of fishes!!

Will my betta definatly not annoy the rams? just want to be sure as i have another tank i can move him too if you think he might x

Im not to sure about the betta and the rams as i dont own a betta but if you have another tank you could move him to. Then i would see if they get along and if not think about moveing your betta i have a 5g running at the moment as a fry tank and am thinking of changeing it and keeping a betta not sure yet anyway good luck with your cichlids keep us informed on your choice and how there doing

Hey called Fish Shop today they are getting in some Bolivian Rams on Tuesday! :D
And they advise i should get 4, pairs are really hard to come by in my area and for the size of tank i have they advise 4 would be good!

So ill be going in next week to pic some

Will do Rusty!! thanks again for your help finding the perfect fish for my tank Im so excited to get my lovely new rams :D
