Hi people can you please let me know what you have in your tank either sand or coral and your reasons for your choice.. :good: :good:

I have sand with a little natural coloured gravel mixed in as it looks so much nicer than plain gravel IMO.

Takes more cleaning though as you can see every bit of poop!!

Hiya's,

I have light sand in all the tanks now, cheap, easily cleaned and added to if needbe, ohh and all my new loaches would hate me if a had gravel

As for black sand not showing poop, i guess it would hide it slightly

But, aint there always a but hehe, wouldn't it be better seeing the poop easier thus being able to remove it to a better degree ? ;)

so far looks like sand is the way to go... :good: :good: :good:

I started with gravel, but I love my Corys far too much so I gave 'em sand instead! Cheap and cheerfull too! couple of £ a bag from Argos :)

Argos... did you go for any colour or do they only do one type :good:

No, no colour.. it's just their play sand. But after a lot of washing/rinsing it is fine for in the tank! It's the colour of beach sand, quite light.

Perfect....im glad i talk to you people as i nearly brought coral sand today...local fish shop said its the stuff to get..

Well, can't blame them, theyre a bussiness that needs to make money after all. In fairness, that coral sand is probably PERFECT yet expensive. Although I think it can lead to a high PH(?)
So far I and others using play-sand haven't had a problem so far.

Don't be too hard on them, a lot of people recommend coral sand when it comes to Malawi as it does buffer the PH.
Some people still prefer to use it even when they are told that normal sand will be fine. It is down to personal preference and what look you want to achieve. With plenty of rock, that will buffer the PH so coral sand isn't essential.
