Just seen a picture of a coral i really like..

I was just wondering what it is so I can find out if I'll be able to keep it :)

looks like a blue sponge to me, i think its one of the hardiest of the sponges to keep, they can fall apart and re-grow elsewhere.
Very nice btw, i also want one! :D

Blue sponge.
Hard to keep because if any part of the sponge touches air then it rots and fies. this means that the chances of a sponge reaching your system without touching air is next to impossible.. even the air in the bag when being transported will kill it if it touches it.

Shame cos its a beutiful thing

what light would then need?

I'm planning a small 35gal tank once we've moved rather than the monster 200gal i was hoping for (wedding to pay for too now :D)

It'll be lite with floresents, 2 20W T8's and a 55W T5 50/50

What sort of stuff would i be able to offer a suitable home to?

This isn't really my specialty, but if air touchs any kind of sponge, it will kill it, because the air gets caught in the chambers it uses for filterfeeding, and it can't eat anymore so it dies. So if you're able to get it into your tank without it touching the air, it should be good.

I think like most sponges they need a low light, pref in a cave or under a over-hang on live rock, they need a good water flow over them, and the filter feed, so food like marine snow and phyto will help. They MUST NOT be exposed to the air, for the reasons darkside said, and also kept off a sandy substrate which can block the pores. I have an orange ball sponge, which is doing ok i think, but as the pic shows, it fell off the L.R, (well was pushed by something overnight!) and is abit sandy but all its pores on top still opened

Ive now got myself a blue sponge and an orange branch sponge aswell, both have opened their pores and seems to be doing well, as isthe ball still!

if the sponge does touch air they say to turn it every wich way and squeeze it a bit to help expell the air, sponges can go through alot, you can litterally cut a sponge into pieces the size of grains of sand and given good water and plenty of food they will each grow up to be sponges, they really move the water to.
