how much does 18 cubic feet of water weigh??

I need to know as i`m constructing a stand for my tank and want to know how sturdy to make it.

Is it a timber job or welding gear? plus i want to test it before i acctualy put the tank or watter on

I have a 20 gal., and the storeowner recomended me to build a METAL stand of heavy duty iron... i thought it was pretty exagerated, but he kept insisting, so i did get myself one of those; i like it. it gives sturdiness and doesnt make you nervous to add that extra granite rock or two for decorations.

Around 1125 pounds, water is 62.5 pounds per cubic foot. Sounds like it's around 100 to 110 gallons. Wood will work fine, check out http://garf.org/ scroll down to the diy section on the left. They base that design on a 135 gallon. I've based my stands off thet design, sturdy stuff.

i work in the building trade any way so i can knock up a stand easy enough, just wonderd how sturdy to make it.....

thank you all very much people

You can make stands for 200 gallons out of wood without any worries from 2x4. my 6x2x2 is over engineered and as such is made from 2x4 with 6 4x4 legs.

metal on a 20 gallon is a bit overkill...

here's mine I've still to make the doors- it's pine with rubbing wax to make it look nice
