My 38 litre tank has cycled for 4 weeks and testing suggests it is now ready to be stocked with fish. I am planning to get White Cloud Mountain Minnows and, from what I have read, presume that about 8 will be ok in a tank of this size (please advise if this is incorrect!) I am also wanting to put a couple of small plants in there - can anyone suggest which plants would be suitable? Thanks.

hiyaa,

i think this post may get answered more proffesionally in the plants thread, near the bottom of the page, id move the thread for you, but i dont have a clue if i can or how to, try adding it again but in the plants thread for more opinions and names of plants ect. it might help :good:

iv never kept minnows but they are a very good choice of fish for your size tank. im glad you have reserched up what is suitable for your tank and have cycled it and tested when its ready. some people start over the wrong way. 90% becuase of bad pet store advice so well done ;)

are you planning on keeping your tank coldwater or tropical? as im sure minnows can live in both.
well i was told that 6 could fit into a 28ltr tank so im sure that around 8-10 white cloud minnows or poss more or less (depending on if your planning on any other tankmates in with them.)

as for the plants, i have a 48ltr tank and i have 1 big plant in, and one medium size and then sand and bogwood in and a little plastic plant at the back, and depending on the shape of your 38ltr tank id say about 2-3 plants or posibly more depending on your space at the bottom or what other decor your planning on having in. i take it your planning on live plants?

hope this helped x :)

Thanks for your reply. I decided to go for 8 and they are now swimming around happily in my tank. They certainly are very entertaining little fish! I was worried that the spraybar in the tank might be creating a current too strong for them so I was going to turn the pump down a bit, but they seem to like swimming into the bubbles! I have put one medium sized plant in there for now. I know that sometimes you get snails with live plants - would these be a problem if any appear?

I kept 6 white clouds in a Baby bior for years and they loved it never hjad any problems so I would say you could probably stock about 12 in your setup with ease they are not particularly messy fish either and they are really entertaining fish

:good:

It can be done that way although its not ideal as you dont have any definitive way of measuring the amount of ammonia produced.

Did you tank go through the cycle of ammonia spike, then nitrite spike before both dropped to zero?
