In the recent hot weather (UK) I have noticed the water temp in my tank rise to approx 29 degrees.I have turned the heater thermostat right down to minimum but the temp still stays the same.It shows 18 degrees as a minimum setting.
I have a Juwell 180 litre with all standard equipment.I have also opened the top flaps on the tank. All fish seem fine but the water does feel a lot warmer.

Has anybody any idea what could be wrong................do i change the thermostat and/or heater?........or is this usual in hot weather?...............do I unplug the heather totally?...............is there any way of testing the heater to see if its working ok/

Any help would be great !!

Turning the heater down or turning it off will not help cool the water so dont worry about that so much.
unless the light is on all the time which means it's brocken and heating the water all the time.

Lights produce heat too, so turn them off is the best option.
Filters may cause heat too but never turn them off.

If the fish look like their suffering you can try to cool the water a little either by doing a water change but check the temp of the tap water and dont drop the temp to fast as it can stress the fish and cause problems

Or put a fan on the tank to blow fresh air over it but if it's to hot thats pointless

Or you could add a few cube's of ice to the water, again not to many as u only want to cool it slowly.

I have never seen a light on the thermostat..............where is it?
Is there any way of testing the heater?................I have read that Juwell heaters can pack up?
This heater is only 6 months old.

Ok set up top temp to max, and you should get a click and a light come on. This tells you it's warming the water.

The light is usually under the temp settings, but as i don't know the model your using i cant say.

I have a Juwel Rekord 600, so a much smaller tank, but my the heater does have an orange light, which you can't really see because its hidden in the filter enclosure but if you pull it out you can see the light. No idea whether the lights supposed to be on all the time, I think its only when it needs to heat the water. But mine being a much maller tank, the heater model will be different. You could turn the heater off and see if that affects the tank temperature, just keep a close eye to make sure it doesnt drop too low? maybe

The heater is a Juwell 200watt................thermostat range from 16 to 32 degrees.
Heating currently set at minimum.16 degrees but water at nearly 30 degrees

Have you checked it's working as it should be?

and if it's turning on and off correctly then go back to my first post on cooling the water.

Just taken heather out and it was cold...............put it in a bucket of water and turned thermostat up,it clicked on and I saw a red light in the middle of the tube come on...........I assume this is working ok.
I will try what the posts advice to bring the temp down, but cannot understand how the water can remain at this temp with no heating on?

Any more help will be appreciated !

Well the heater is working fine then. Thats not the problem what so ever. It's just the air temp that keeping to very warm and things are cooling down a little now should it should be ok

turn any tank lights off as these produce a lot of heat too. Then add a little ice or an small ice pac, to allow the temp to drop slowly.

Sorry but can I ask a related question here? I haven't try to but I saw my heater goes down to 1degrees c. Does this mean it has a feature to make water cooler ?

No it will not. It will only come on when the water get's below to that temp.
