I woke up this morning to what i can only describe as a spiders web going across the inside of the tank underwater does anyone have the foggyest idea what it could be.

What is in the exact shape of a web or was it, just randoms lines? if it was random then maybe some hair algae or something?

Did you introduce anything into your tank that's from a lake or outdoor pond? Algae that looks like what you described isn't common in the aquarium but it is in lakes and ponds. What color is it?

To my knowledge there are no spiders that spin webs below the waters surface. I think that the adhesive fails under water. Algae or bacteria are probably the culprits.

there are spiders in the UK that use web-traps to take down bubbles of air to a bigger wep-trap beneath, but I don't think there are any spiders that spin physical webs accross water. There are also stone fly larvae, ans caddis fly larvae that make web tunnels under water, and even an aquatic caterpillar that does the same!
