Hi,

I'm looking at getting a UV sterilizer for my tank to get control of the algae bloom, but I'm not quite sure how they fit in the tank. I've got an Aqua medic percula90 so all filters are compartmented at the back of the tank. I have a dry area in one compartment where I could house a UV sterilizer, - but are they meant to be submersed?

I'm guessing they don't but don't want to fork out on one if I've got nowhere to put one.

DO NOT IMMERSE the UV.

The UV is attached to the system by having water pumped through it, usually either from a return pump to the main tank or the discharge from a power filter.

You can buy internal UV's now that can be submerged, but if your UV has hosetails at either end then it is an external one.

An alternative if you don't have room is to attach an ozone generator to your skimmer air supply, that will help keep pathogens at bay.

but remember, ozone isnt something you just plug and play, its a pretty dangerous gas to your fish and even you. So make sure you do your research and know exactly how to use ozone. It is very effective though so ive heard, increases skimmate production, clears water, kills bad bacteria and pathogens etc.

It is very effective, but as quite rightly said, it is not something to play about with.

the best way of introducing ozone to the tank is in the skimmer chamber so it has the water contact but not the contact with the living creatures

Controllable output ozone generators are the best ones to buy
