Have just arrived home to find that my denisonii barb appears to be blind! His eyes are misted up and he doesnt react to me moving my hand in front of him as he usually does. he is just staying in one place... I have tested the water and there is only a very small amount of nitrite in the water so i will do a water change tonight.

A couple of Platties died a couple of days ago, which was very surprising considering they have always been the most hardy...

Any ideas? This guy has had it hard, he's bullied by the other one and had the shock of his life when he jumped out of the tank a few weeks back!!

Thanks

Have just read about Corneal Opacity (cloudy eye) Im guessing it could be this. The site says it can be down to nutritional deficiencies, I have noticed that since the other denisonni has been bullying it (last few weeks) the affected one hasnt been eating)

Can anyone shed any more light on this?

Cloudy eye, is a bacterial infection often and is due to bad water quality or sometimes stress.

Check this link. Does it look like this?

If so you will need a bacterial medication, and a water change first.

Yes i'd say it does look a bit like that. it basically looks like he has no eyes at all and it is only when he moves them that you can tell theyre still there!!

He has been under a lot of stress as the other barb hasnt left him alone since he was put in the tank, chasing him constantly, the sick guy has just been hiding behind things upside down for a while now which seems to be the only way to get the other one to stop pestering him!

I will do a water change as as it says on the site i will leave it a week or two before trying antibiotics, would you agree?

Thanks

I would do the water change and then watch for the next three days for it to clear at all. If it starts to clear then I would not bother with medication. However if it is at most 7 days and you have not seen a difference I would add the antibiotic.

Good Luck! :good:

Cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease not a desease in its own right.
Causes.
Old age,
Bad water quality.
Stress
Irratation
parasites
bacterial
Poor diet.

If hes in with other fish i would take him out and put him in another tank. IF you don't have a smaller tank mabey you have a cooler you could use. Then treat him with the bacterial medication.
