Hi Guys

I have a tank which has been established for almost 4 years.

Tank is maintained well and regularly water changed, all equipment performing perfectly.

Tank contains 2 x dwarf gouramis, 2 x neon tetras and 2 x harlequin rasboras.

Today one of the gouramis has been led on his side on the bottom of the tank. There is a little bit of life in him, but not much by the looks of things. I don't know what to do - do I leave him, or put the poor mite out of his misery? I don't like the idea of him suffering but I don't have a quarantine tank.

Also, on a slightly related note, there is a small (but possible) chance that in a month or two I will be required to work abroad for up to a year. My main concern is the fish! Obviously I will not be able to take them, and won't be here to look after them. I live alone and don't know anyone who would want/be able to take the whole tank and the fish. Will a good LFS "re-house" them, or take them in?

Or is somewhere like here the best place to try and find someone local who can accommodate them into their own aquarium?

Many thanks

There is a classified section here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/113-classified-section/
Depending on where you live there may be a local aquatic's club. You could try find homes for your fish there as well.

If you've had your dwarf gouramies for 4 years you've had them a good long while. Their life expectancy is 3 to 5 years, so your gourami may just be at the end of its life time. Just to make sure, have you checked for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate?

Thanks for the help. Not long after writing this post, the battle was over, so at least he didn't suffer for long. He was around 3 years old I believe.

I will check out the classifieds if and when the time comes, thanks.

Sorry for your loss.
R.I.P.
