Moving my 75 U.S. gallon to a 125, 6 ft.

In it will be:
1 Rotkeil Severum
3 Redtail Tinfoil Barbs
1 Leopard Sailfin Pleco

All are full grown except the Pleco. I have a Blue Acara I may try to put in there, but he is very shy, and I worry the Tinfoils will be too rowdy for him. So, I am wondering what I could add that is a largish fish that gets along with the Sev and not care about the boisterous Tinfoils.

Thanks

A COuple of good sized Uaru would probably fit in very nicely. Wonderful fish if you can get hold of some !

Do you think you could get away with a few Panchax in this tank, possibility maybe?

Is this a juvi or an adult Sev? If juvi, you could try another Sev.

Or what about a group of Geophagus species?

I think the BA may work but depends on the individual temperament of the fish :good:

I agree with what people have said above with regards mixing with the sev but I would worry that the tinfoils are going to be too boistrus for a lot of the south american cichlids purely because of how calm most are. Sevs are a bit different because they can go with the rough but they are pretty chilled out (most of the time).

I have to say I think tinfoils and geos and uarus are a bit of a hazard.

But saying that what about Geophagus Imporgensis (spelling) its like a smaller G.Brasiliensis and quite available in the UK at the moment but you would need to get to your better fish shops. Or you could do a very nice group of Geophagus Stiendachnary (spelling) if you google geophagus stiney it will bring up pics. Look a bit weird in pics but look so much better in the flesh especially as adults.

Then you could probs go to central america for a few more options like your firemouths and ellioti or nics (like in my signature) ermm maybe some kind of hericthys species (texas cichlid) Star4 keeps some gorgeous ones so might be worth picking her brain about mixing them with sevs.

Not quite sure what you are meaning here Wills. Who is a hazard to who ?

Never kept large Tinfoils before so not that familiar with the reality of a tank with them in.

I thought geos were a good suggestion also.

Tinfoils are quite boisterous and I think they would spook calm cichlids like Uaru and Geophagus from the Surinamensis complex (altifrons, areos, tapajo etc) but I think Braziliensis, Iporegensis and Stiendachnary would work pretty well.

Of my limited experience with tinfoils, I currently keep a 10", they are very boisterous and I have to say, my large severum, 6" Oscars, 6" geophagus and even the GT didnt like him at all. He now lives with my 8" very calm Oscar and they best buds, but the only two fish in the tank now, the geophagus really didnt like him, he would hassle them just by being nosey.

Maybe because he is a lone tinfoil that didnt help with his behaviour and in a group they maybe more calm.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will look the fish up. I am in the USA and don't have as good a selection as the UK, but can often find the rarer species on Aquabid and have them shipped.

I can't add another Sev. Already tried that, I added a Green and all was fine until she laid eggs, she picked on the Red. Then shortly after I did a water change and changed around some decor and the Red tried to kill her.

The Tinfoils are crazy. They pick up gravel and spit it at the glass. They never calm down. Have a large Opaline Gourami in there and they knock her all around. They know not to get in the Reds space.

I was considering a Dempsey, but not sure if the Sev would like that. Firemouth may work.

For anything to work in your tank is going to take a good bit of judgement, and then a little bit of luck.

As I'm sure you're aware, individuals from all these species have different characters.

I think a Dempsey has as good a chance of working as anything else.

I still think a couple of largish Uaru (7" plus) would be able to cope with the tinfoils.

Yes, I know. I have had to return fish that were supposed to be perfectly compatible. The Red isn't very aggressive. He is a good boy. I was surprised he attacked the Green, but she kept picking on him. She is in her own tank and I can't keep any other Cichlids with her. She has Silver Dollars and Tiger Barbs as mates.

I will go to the store and see if I fall for anything, then ask advice here if I'm not sure.

Thank you :)

Maybe some Loaches and an oddball ? I don't have too much room to work with. I like the Ghost Knife but see they get too big. Clown Knife may be an option. Not sure if the Knifes are too skiddish.
