Hi All,

Just a quick one regarding an unheated tank. If say I wake up 6am and the tank is 22.2 degrees and then at the warmest point in the day the temp is 23.3, would this be classed as ok from a fluctuation point of view??

I dont want to stress the fish out. Havent got them yet but want to keep room temp fish ONLY.

Thanks,

Dave

thats fine, you have to remember in the wild the temperature is never the same and it does drop down during the night.  I'm kind of wondering where you are that the tank is 22 degrees at 6am but only goes up 1 degree in the middle of the day.  I run two different room temperature tanks but I keep a heater on them set to 21 incase it ever gets too cold because of Canadian winters

Thanks for your reply.

I live in the Uk.

Basically when its winter we keep the heating around 22 C in the house. The tank is against an inner part of the house. Not exposed to direct window or radiators etc........

God help me in the summer as I have heard emps can go up quite a lot.

Just want to consider my options at this point for different types of fish as I dont really want to put a heater in (( tropical fish)).

thanks

Why don't you want to add a heater? They're very cheap to run; you're probably looking at, at most £2/3 a week, and it would give you an awful lot more species of fish to choose from (not that there;s anything wrong with WCMM; my mate has dozens, and they are beautiful fish).

thats what i cant decide upon... hehe.

if there are some beutiful cold water fish out there then that £2-3 i save would go towards an even bigger tank. I currently have 150 litre tank but after putting in a few plants to me it look hell of a lot smaller now LOL.

I bought one of them Juewl 54litre tanks 3 weeks ago and within four days i though sorry bank account but im a fish lover and this is just not going to do... so i went out and bought a 10Litre tank off ebay for £90.

* sorry i bought a 150 Litre NOT 10 Litre

Typo error SORRY

Does anyone on this forum have unheated fish??? Do you have any pics??

There really aren't that many coldwater/temperate fish to choose from.

You could do a WCMM/hillstream loach set up, but you'd need to up your flow by a lot, and there's variatus platies, but that's about it (I'm sure there are more out there, but mostly not available in the UK).

Quite a few barbs are temperate fish as well.

The best best for a 150l tank are Odessa barbs - stunning fish and happy in temperatures as low as 18c and as high as 25c

They would be my fist choice for a temperate tank.

Rosy and Golden barbs are also a good choice for a temperate tank.

Be careful if going for hillstream loaches they need a very specific set up that most tanks can't provide.

There are plenty of other fish that can be kept in temperate tanks for some ideas see: http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/article/alternatives-to-goldfish-for-coldwater-fish-tanks.html

However I'd still stick a heater in and set it to 19c - I doubt you would ever need it so it would t have any running costs but in extreme circumstances could save your fish.

I bought some glowlight danio for one of my room temperature tanks, they look great
