I'm not a 100% sure where to post this question, so ill go for here. Yesterday I added Some Java Moss and Moss ball to my tank that is currently cycling. I didnt quartine like i should have, and today... I found a really tiny snail on the glass of my aquarium. Im hoping hes the only one, as i do not wish to have snails. I pulled him out and right now hes resting in a small plastic container. He has a spiral conical shaped shell, I think he might be a trumpet snail but im not too positive. I tried to take pics, but hes so tiny, my camera gets blurry that close up. So will the ammonia from the cycling tank hurt him? and what do i do with this snail i dont want? Ammonia Reading is 2 ppm currently.

Snails are sensitive to ammonia in much the same way as fish so he can't go back into a fishless cycling tank. The only thing I ever do with a snail that I don't want is crush it against the tank glass and let my fish eat it. I have never tried to save an unwanted snail and would not know where to start.

I either throw them down the toilet or out the window, there a complete pest.

But besides being another way of keeping algae under control, aren't snails useful for small fry, in that they produce a substance that is great for junior fish?

I've never heard of that. :dunno:

I usually throw snails in the waste basket or, if there enough, gather them up and put them in my aquarium society's monthly auction. One hundred or so will only sell for about $2 but there are some members who need them to feed their fish.

I am going to buy some Assasin snails to keep down my snail population. I have tried the cucumber trick over night and there was only one snail on it, all they do it eat away at my plants.

Are you spose to quarantine plants then?

Found out a little too late, your suppose to or least give them a special bath. I have found 4 snails so far, I'm pretty sure they are malaysian trumpet snails. I've even figured out where they came from exactly. The lettuce thing didnt reveal anything. They seem to like my moss ball better. Which is where I think they came from. Considering I went back to the store and they had one covered in the same snail I have.
