Ok, what measurement of volume do you use, im getting confused. someone says "55 Gallon tank" and i dont know if thats UK or US

So... do most people use US or UK?

For what I know it absolutely depends where you live and since you live in the UK it probably is UK gallons. Next time can you please ask this question where it would be more appropriate like in Trop. Chit Chat or Beginners questions. Thank you :D

If it doesn't specify, it's "usually" US gallons. I (living in the UK) only use US gallons or litres.

thanks for the replies! :)

Infact, i thought i posted it in chit chat, but it seemed to have turned up here?!! odd... maybe i clicked the wrong catagory or somthin! :eek:

I normally put (UK)G after mine, or use Litres, gotta love the metric system ;)

when I say gallons I refer to US gallons. unless of course I state otherwise.

When I talk gallons I talk Imperial gallons (what is this UK gallons nonsense? :p ).

I prefer just to put the size of the tank though, then everyone can go and work it out for themselves.

I usually guess from the number of gallons, assuming standard sized tanks

For example:

55gal = 48x18x15 tank = 45gal uk

you rarely see people quote 4ft tanks as 45 gal

Next size 48x15x12 = 37gal us 31gal uk (ive often seen this rounded to a 40gal, personally i'd round down to 35 gal, ie removing the substrate amount.)

oooh, am acutally getting excited, picking up my 46.7 gallon (US)/ 38.9 gal (UK) tank on sunday. its a 48x15x15. *drools*
