Hi everyone,
I have a mixed cichlid tank that has suddenly gone crazy breeding (spring is in the air!)- bloody convicts spreading like bacteria!
Although I have never held any hope of my uarus breeding one has been acting weird recently- cleaning a piece of bogwood, shifting sand and chasing other fish away that get too close- Neither of them have ever shown any hint of aggression before. I have no idea if they are even a pair, as I have read it's nigh on impossible to tell. The one who is acting all weird also has developed a bluish sheen around the face and thin but bright green/ blue lines in its anal fin. The other Uaru is completely indifferent to everything but is staying close by but they are always together anyway.
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with these or recognize any of these signs? I would love to breed them as I think that they are massively under-rated and apparently don't breed that easily. Any thoughts?

My uarus are always together and they were being really weird. They were fitting well one best the other up. Then they took over a conner and moved sand and one would bite the fake plants and shake them. They were just weird I never saw them clean anything just bite wood. Mine would change colors too but just show off to other fish or when fighting. My 2 are kind of aggressive all the time. They are bossy jerks of the tank. I call them the mafia.

If yours are cleaning it sounds like a pair. Yes they do breed in aquariums it's not uncommon. So good chance you have a pair. It's raising the fry that is the hard part.

Before I sold my two earlier this year I could tell when they were going to spawn as the male would go a reddish colour and show a kind of pattern on the skin which wasn;t otherwise visible. They;d clean a spot and lay there. I never had the eggs more than a day or two but the tank had plecs and loach in

Ok, thanks guys- I shall continue to watch them. I am hopefully going to be able to give them their own tank soon so might give them more of a chance to breed. I will probably try to source some more as well.
