i would like some info about these guys i would like one but i dont no much about them. my tank is 140L inc sump. could i have one? or one like it?

IMo its the only urchin you could have in your tank - they are lovely little guys and its so funny when things stick to them! Do you think you have enough in the tank for it to eat yet?

Another good thing about them is you can pick them up if you need to, they feel like velcro :good:

Just on a side note, for a giggle
A friend of mine told me that if she ever got a marine tank she would only put a few of these guys in it and make little hats and place them everywhere in the tank so that they could walk around with hats on :fun:

yep, they are herbivors, they also eat coraline - which you may think is bad, but your rocks need to 'breath' and if covered too thickly with coraline they do not filter well

As Seffie says these are great little Characters i have 3 in my tank they are great at keeping the Coraline down so your LR has a greater surface area to provide better filtration mine are partial to a little Nori from time to time :)

thanks very much you to :good: i might get one of these guys when i have some money.

firstly, sorry if im hijacking this thread, i dont mean to but REALLY??? i have always wanted sea urchins, but was always scared that if i got stung by its needles then i would be poisoned or something  . So if i accidently brush my hand with a tuxedo urchin, it would feel like velcro???

i think they do but i woulnd touch them. the ones im getting have small spines unlike the long spine one i have seen.

Tuxedo`s have quite soft spines you can handle them with care I always use a net to be safe :)

The care of a Tuxedo urchin is not far off from a black longspine:

As you can see from the post, mine is now going on over 4 years old. With care, they can do well.
