I've had Turk, my "Tiger" Oscar for about 6/7 weeks now, i think. Oh boy has he grown. I say 'he' quite loosely, as i don't really know to be fair. Quick little picture of him in the bag when i got him.

He's growing rapidly. Luckily for him he has his own tank hopefully being bought in the next few days. Going to view a 72x24x18" tommorow, and fingers crossed come back with it friday/sat. Ideally after a 6x2x2 but 18" wide is the best i've found within 30 minute drive radius so far.

There were some slight doubts that he was a true tiger oscar at first, some whispering to me he was wild. I still have no idea, but there he is.

Now i'm wonderin how long it will take Lesley to arrive in here :)

Little Fatty!!!! he is gorgous, very unusual markings, almost gold rather than orange. It will be nice to see how he grows. Sorry I took so long was doing a WC

You want a 180 gal for one Oscar!!!!!! Wow you spoil your fish. Or will he have tank mates?

He has great color.

I'm getting a 180 gal for him yes, but not 'just' for him. I have recently bought two 'small' orange spot plecs which are supposedly 8" fish, but now turns out they are potential 16"+ fish. So they will both be in with him in a year or two. Then my gf's step-dad bought a common gibbi because "he wanted a fat les", as he calls them, on the basis when it outgrows his 200L he'll fob it off to me in my 6ft tank. Then theres the other fish i 'plan' on getting. Looking into other alternatives, large shoalers. I'd love denisonii barb if i can get away with them. We shall have to see.

Indeed his markings are quite odd, thus why i bought him. You can see from his first pic (in the bag) they were almost white/silver. Possibly down to stress from transport but never-the-less i loved his colouration so i bought him. Looking at him now they have turned a faint redish/brown with flecks of goldy/orange in them. So it's going to be fascinating seeing how he (she?) matures. Can't wait.

Just off for a drive down to Southam now to see this 72x24x18 tank. Really want a 24" deep tank if i can, however i think this might have to do.

Whats the general opinion in keeping an Oscar in an 18" deep tank? I know they potentially grow to 14" there-there abouts. Would REALLY appreciate common opinion on this matter if at all possible.

Cheers, James

Was the tank any good? I think you should be ok with 18" deep :good:

18" deep and 24" wide is way better than the other way round for virtually all cichlids (apart from perhaps angels).

Yes i'm aware of this, and unfortunately i think the tank and cabinet was just a little too tatty. So i passed it by. BUT, i don't know how many people noticed that thread yesterday where a new member signed up and said she was getting rid of a Juwel 4ft for free with 2 oscars. Well i'm collecting it tommorow morning :) So this will do for now. Untill i save up enough to get a new 6ft tank in february, which is my plan now.

Ideally want a 24" in the long run, and i won't settle for anthing less than 20".
