and im woundering what fish will do well in this size tank ??

i would love some Kissing Gourami but dont know how big they get or room they need

Also im wanting pink and black gravel and was woundering whats best type to get i was thinking of sand????? i did look at glass crystal type gravel but is this safe???? thanks im new to this so bare with me i want to get it right

thanks again xxxx

There are all sorts of fish for a tank that size, but not Kissing Gourami, I'm afraid; they grow too big.

I'm guessing you'd like pink and/or black fish, yes? There aren't very many pink fish about; I'll have to have a think and get back to you on that; just be careful you don't get fooled or tricked into buying fish that have been dyed; this is very stressful and painful for the fish and not something we'd like to encourage! Any fish that is a really bright, fluorescent sort of pink (especially in spots or patterns) is probably dyed; fish just don't really come in that colour naturally.

For a beginner, I'd recommend gravel rather than sand, as sand isn't so easy to look after. Steer clear of anything with sharp edges, which I expect the glass crystal stuff has, as most fish will pick a mouthful up occasionally. If it's smooth it would be ok though.

Have you read up about 'cycling' yet? This is very important for the welfare of your fish and there is plenty of information in the Beginner's Resource Centre here; http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/

Hope this helps; post again if there's anything else you need help with; there are loads of very knowlegable people on here willing to give advice :)

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :hi:

Hi thanks for the reply

Yeah wanting pink or black fish but after research ive found that id be lucky to find any pink fish

what sort of black fish are out there??

its not really essential there pink and black but im abit ocd and want them to fit in with my bedroom
sounds dilly i kno haha like i say its not essential xx

gravel i dont have any trouble with ive found some nice black extra fine gravel and some pink so i think i will be getting that just from having gold fish years ago i remember the stones had to be really rinsed well or the dye ran althought the gravel i have found states it had been prewashed and only need rinsin xx

i have read about the cycling and i havent got any fish yet and want to get the tank ready first so probly wont have any for a while so thats
not a problem at all xx

a general list of fish that would do well in this tank would be great as i can research each fish and see what types i like thanks xxx

If you like kissing gourami a smaller alternative is the thick lipped gourami and you can get a really nice orange variety which I know is not your colour scheme but still a very pretty fish.

As for black fish, a school of black ruby barbs always look incredible but they are a good tank mate for the orange thick lipped gourami as well. Their face is quite red but their body is jet black, a really really nice fish :)

A school of Cherry Barbs would go well with the above two as well which again is more of a cherry red but the females are quite pink and slightly coppery in appearance.

Probably the pinkest fish I can think of is the Blind Cave Tetra which again would do really nice in your tank. Also some albino fish are pink - though there are not any true like hot pink fish that I can think of these are more of a skin pink if you know what I mean?

Although saying that I would bet money there are some pink strains of guppies and endlers - though guppies can limit your stocking choices in general but if you stock the tank around the guppies it can be a really nice tank.

Few things to think about there :) A few good website resources to check out are tropicalfishfinder and seriously fish - also if you want to check out any catfish a website called planet catfish has to be the best one to check out.

If youve not set the tank up yet you have joined the forum at the best time! Make sure you read all the beginners resource sections in particular the fishless cycle - this is the best piece of advice you will get and you will not get told how to do this in the shop. It takes a while but when you come to add fish its very stress free for you and the fish you keep. Have a read through the fishless cycle and the nitrogen cycle and let us know how you understand it and we can help you work it out :) Most members here have done the fishless cycle and have stable established tanks as a result :)

Hope thats helped

I think there are pinkish glofish. Here is a link to the website http://www.glofish.com.

We don't have glolights in the UK. For pink fish, I agree with wills that albinos of any species tend to look pink ish. You could get a couple of albino bristles, maybe a group of albino corys and then a large group of black dithers..?

Definitely look up and make yourself familiar with cycling before starting anything though. :)

(Welcome from sf btw)

Oh my didn't realize that . Oh well thought I would suggest it. I have never actually seen them in any lfs around me either...just seen pics.

Yeah we dont get glowfish here as they are genetically modified so its actually illegal to sell or breed them. There was an article when they first imported into the UK before the law was upheld and some people started to breed them and one person was actually prosecuted!

Don't forget about celestial pearl danios. They are black with white spots and red stripe on there fins. If you go with a lighter background and substrate, the red in there fin would be a little more pale and look pinkish. Fish usually try to match there colors to the subsrate and background, so the darker the background the brighter the color. Food is also part of there coloration. Higher proteins and other nutrients the brighter the color.

They get about an inch long and are definately fun to look at. There price does come a bit steep but they are fairly new to aquariums and were overfished when they were discovered but they are beautiful and well worth it if youre interested in them.

Were you planning on going planted or just using ornaments and plastic/silk plants?

Thinking about it leopard danios are a pearly pink colour... and you can get pink apple snails and some of the paler cherry shrimp might look pink.

After looking through the website I can see why. I can see the benefit for research but not for sale...seems a bit cruel.
