Hi all, another question. i am moving to derby soon, which is 36~ miles away from me. i dont know of any fish shops im derby or the local area, and i really trust my current local shop, he always has great stock which are well cared for. I would like to take fish from this shop up to derby with me, but i have no idea how to transport them whilst keeping them warm. the journey is about 40 mins. how would i keep the fish warm?

i do this all the time, the fish shop i get ALL my fish from is exactly 40 mins away, the fush shop should put oxygen in the back and seal it for you. i then place it in a box on the passenger side of the car and keep the heating on a little bit (not too hot, dont want to cook them)

they will be fine, i've never lost a fish from transportation in 8 years.

40 minutes bagged in a cooler to retain temperature. Fish at an auction are bagged for 12+ hours and do fine.

As people above have said, 1-2hours in an insulated box is no problems, providing the fish are bagged correctly with 1/3rd water and 2/3rd air, and any spikey fish should be double bagged to prevent possible leakage.

Fish can stay bagged in normal air (no pure oxygen needed) for about 24 hours, the only thing you need worry about is heat. So if you think you may be a bit longer buy a few heatpacks. you can find them on ebay easily enough or i buy in bulk from www.livefoodshop.co.uk crack one of these open put it at the bottom of the box and these will keep them toasty for about 17 hours. Recently I have been boxing fish up at 5pm and they arrive still warm at 10am the next day.
