:/ i dunno who else has one, but i have an animal room in my house specifically for my babies (guinea pig, cat's bed, two 20gal fish tanks, 2 budgie chicks and sometimes my samoyed)
i find it easier (since its so cold here) to keep them warm, and care for them.

today when i did my weekly room clean (vaccume, dust and wash walls)
i noticed just how many plugs i really using
the problem is that my tanks need so mant outlets that i have several extension cords and those plug-ins that have like 4 plug spots (pardon my english :*) )

and don't worry they are all baby proofed ;)

on top of that i have a space heater in there on all night and in the morning for a bit

i am so worried that it will start a fire that i find myself doing a couple checks in the middle of the night :look:

anyone else find this a problem (too many outlets being used)

If your running multiple 'jack' plugs then make sure your extension plugs/cords have a built-in circuit breaker. This should eliminate any over "extension-cording" a single power-point outlet.

Otherwise, for complete peace of mind, get a local electrician in and sort your problem out once and for all. It might cost a bit initally, but knowing your 'system' is wired up correctly is a big anxiety reliever!!!

Good luck friend :D

As an electrician myself i can offer you pointers on your setup but please note i can not be totally sure and cannot offer a guarantee of the safety of your setup without seeing it in the person.

If you want a guarantee ask a local electrician to visit.

However please note

Alot of small items such as internal filters etc may be rated at 5watts or 10watts.
A Heater may be 100Watts
So if you run 2 heaters and 2 filters thats only around 210watts.
so for 4 plugs its using less power than a radio or 2 150watt lightbulbs

If the fuses in the extension cords are rated correctly and most importantly the main fuses in your distribution board are correctly rated or even better are RCD's then this is great.

However the space heater worries me, electric heaters have in the past have had the reputation for using alot of power like 2KW this is 2000watts which is alot. about the same as 2 kettles boiling. It should state the power usage on the space heater.

I have tried my best to answer this to the best of my ability but cannot be held responsible for any loss or injury.
It is entirely up to you if you want to get the system checked professionally.
