USA,
well as non of you know, ive decided to breed my green CT's in my 5 gallon tank. Ive been conditioning them for 2 weeks on shrimp, ran out so i have to get more live food at the lfs today. But hes only made 2 tiny bubble nests under leaves of the silk plants. can this be becasue she doesnt have many eggs? Or should I wait before letting them at it? Its been a week already. Im really excited about it, lol. But Im also nervous about the male being mean to the female, like really mean. I know she's a *****, lol, but hes bigger than her.

i don't get it..so theyr'e both in the tankr ight now? or is she in the tank wtih her chimney?

In my experience, i release them 12-24 hours after she's in the chimney. Uusually this is oveinght, and soemtimes the male will blow a nest, and sometimes he won't. after 24 hours or so i would release her and see waht he does. Most of the time this is when he'll start a bubblenest and she'll go hide in a corner until he's done. If theyr'e not doing anything but abusing each other i put her back in the chimney for naother 24 hours.

As for your female having eggs, they do always have eggs in their body, but during breed they should have "extra" eggs whcih would make them look plump. I've bred a female that didnt' look plump at all and still got a big spawn.

Anyways the only thing you can do is really keep a close ey on them if you do release them. I would suggest doing it in the morning of a day when you can keep an eye on them (maybe on the weekend?)

yeah, shes in her vase, the cimney didnt fit, but i used a smaller one just like one.

hes already made a nest, but two nests. Should I realease her now then? its been 24 hours now. But Im going out soon, so maybe not? I know i wont be able to tommoro, as I have somewere to go.

Shes very plump, just a small betta, lol.

Oh, and what kind of live food is best for the babies? My lfs is very good, and would know, but i think id prefer the breeders opinions on here better.

Good first foods are Vinegar Eels and Microworms, but you should already have cultures of these going, and it doesn't sound like you do since you're asking. You might want to get prepared with foods before you spawn them since. After a few days or a week they will be ready for live BBS (although some breeders start with BBS, there are many of the babies that won't be able to eat them and my die if there is no infusoria in the tank to eat).

i agree, i woudlnt' release her until you have a day where you can watch them just in case anything happens. Do you have some kind of live plant in the tank to provide the fry with infurosia?

those litlte guys eat more than you think! after they are free swimming, i give them 2 days on infurosia, and then i break out the mw, and by a week i intorudce bbs, and then on for a month i feed them mw mixed with bbs...wtih more bbs as they get older. l

I know i wouldnt' be able to go out iwth my female released wiht the male  they can get very vicious with each other. I hope you have enough hiding spaces for her in the tank :)

there are a lot of silk plants, um, i do have bbs, but didnt think babies could eat that. well i let the girl out, and the male chashed her, and knocked over the plant that the nest was on, and it broke. so im going to wait for him to make the nest again, and realse her on thursday. im getting the life foods today, so would they be ready by the time the babies need the live foods? I do think my lfs sells them lalready live though,

u should rely use a cup, or anything that floats on the water, that way he will make a bigger nest and it wont be disterbed by them chasein eachother around

i do put things that float in there, but they float for a while and sink. He usually makes HUGE nests in corners of tanks, dont know why not now.

and I got the live foods! the guy at the store said to rinse them so they will live. theyre blood or black worms. dont remeber, but they sink though.
