Hi guys

I just received my Tiger Lotus bulb and have researched a bit about it, just wanting some advice really.

My tank can be seen in the sig, I dont dose any ferts, no CO2 and have t8 lighting.

Sand is the substrate, i am thinking of root tabs, can someone advise, i dont really want to dose as my plants may become dependant on it?

For placement I was thinking middle back? Trimming the taller leaves to help it grow out rather than up

If they need nutrients, they need nutrients. There is no way around it.

Middle-back is the best place for them, usually so the leaves a springing out from the lower foliage but it doesnt hurt to be different!

With live plants you are looking for a balance between light, ferts, temp, carbon source, etc. You will always have a limiting factor (not enough light, not enough carbon available because you don't do CO2, etc.). If ferts is your limiting factor you will always have a problem with it until you add ferts. Dosing a general liquid supplement is no big deal. I agree with not wanting to get into CO2, but if you want to do live plants it is almost impossible to without some sort of basic liquid fert.

I just bought what I thought was a tiger lotus, but I've got roots, no bulb??

I hope it will grow???

Post a picture, that seems strange unless of course you have been ripped off. Where did you buy it from?

I got it from a shop in Sydney. They sell lots of plants. It wasn't cheap!! It seemed to be a baby of a much larger one.

The leaves are mottled red/brown/green, very red from certain angles.

Here's a pic..

That looks fine, the bulb will develop in time. This will be an off spring from a bulb.

Thanks so much!

I hope you are right! I can't wait for it to get a bit bigger!!
