Just interested, someone told me not many fish grow up to maturity and was wondering how long they live!!!!

Just interested, someone told me not many fish grow up to maturity and was wondering how long they live!!!!

I've had 2 but they passed away,
1 was pregnantand the other was the father
But after she died i got 8 new little ones
then the dad died and tokk 2 with him
but the others are having fun
because my RTB shark (or red tailed black shark) chases all of them around
and they even copy my kissing gouriamis
and mouth-fight
they are really fun to have

Perhaps that is a slight exaggeration. Some fish are born with health problems, sometimes problems do strike even for the best fishkeepers. Even all human babies, however well looked after, do not live to maturity. And fish have an awful lot of fry to compensate for high rates of fry mortality. If all fry born in people's tanks were to survive, the world would be overrun with unwanted fish.
