Bit confusing.... :-(
I have a 30 inch x 12x 17 tank.
Anybody any idea how many gallons that is?

Am I right in thinking anything more than 20 inches of fully grown fish is over stocking it?

Thanks
Stuart

:) Hi sharkbait :)

Its about 18g (uk) - check HERE

To start with 20" is too much a little more as the tank gets mature - but also depending on the type of fish you wish to keep :/

:)

A cubic foot of water contains 1728 cubic inches. Your tank is 30x12x17 inches so contains 6120 cubic inches, giving 3.54 cubic feet. Now, a cubic foot of water at normal temperature weighs 62.3 pounds, so multiply up, your water weighs roughly 221 pounds.

A US gallon weighs 8 pounds, an Imperial gallon 10 pounds, thus, 221 pounds of water is either roughly 27.5 US gallons or roughly 22 Imperial gallons.

That, of course, makes no allowance for rocks gravel/sand or anything else you put in there, so reduce accordingly.

(I hate working with non-metric units!!!)

*** EDIT ***

Echo wetwetwet, 20" is a bit much.
