Hello all!

Quick question and feel free to go in to depth if you like.

What is the minimum size tank for lamprologus? Probably brevis. Is that the smallest cichlid?

Anyway, cheers for any replies! :)

neolamprologus multifasciatus is the smallest species, you can keep a pair in a 10 gallon, I believe. Neolamprologus brevis is close in size, though.

Most shellies can go in a 10 gallon. Multies as above are the smallest but wouldnt take to long to grow out the tank with the breeding. Brevis get quite big.

I agree this is the the stated minimum but knowing how It goes with if you can get a 20-30 this will be better..

A 10 gallon can be home to 2 adult pairs of N. brevis. This can be done successfully but not without the occasional scuffles and split fins.
would prefer a 20 gallon long for 2 pairs of Brevis.
The extra floor room makes a big difference and in a 20 long there is displaying but should very rarely an actual fight between the pairs.

Now which Lamprologus are we talking here?? you say maybe.. close to 20 variations? Please specify so we may advise correctly.

Don't worry, did another post. Got a 120L to set up today and going with a pair of multies and see where I go from there. :) But good to know bigger is better applies here or the future!
