Hey all,i have a hockney reverse flow marine tank (5x2x2) which i have never used, its just sitting in the garage. I want to start keeping tropical fish again and need to know if i can use the tanks own filtering system. i have been looking on the net to find out about the tanks set up but have not found anything or any1 who knows about these tanks,if there is any1 on here who can answer my question, then thanks in advance :)

Hi Steve and Welcome to TFF!

I guess while you're waiting to see if anyone knows (I don't) you could be taking the filter apart and cleaning and examining it and I suppose it would be great if you could do pictures of some of that and maybe that way the members could help out even if they don't know that filter in particular.

Thought id baffle you all :), did take some pics, but they dont explain much, will try to take some more.

Right I read this once and never heard of the filter technique, there are quite a few marine techniques that dont apply to FW and after a brief foray into marine I know just how different the two sides of the hobby are. Anyway on a second search of the reverse hockney technique I found this thread and a patent, which was from 1973... now Im not 100% on this but I have a feeling that this filter set up is more suitable for a set up in which has live rock like marine does.

If it were me I would consider getting some external filters like a fluval FX5 or 2 :) How easy would it be to remove the filter system?

Have you got any plans for what you want to keep :)

all the compartments are siliconed, would be a waste to get rid of it, there must be a way of using the compartments to hold the filter material for FW, if not looks like ill have to have a go at getting it off, as for what fish, just want to get it running and stable first.
